There are many jobs that you can do in the music industry. A lot of people don’t realise how many high paying jobs there are in music. Big music artists aren’t the only ones making a decent living. There are many people behind the scenes that make everything come to fruition. Today I want to educate you those jobs and hopefully you see something that inspires you.
Mixing & Mastering Engineer
Mixing and mastering engineers make about $84,000 on average a year with some making almost double that. Mixing and mastering is the art of taking a song and making it sonically ready for commercial and radio use. This job is great because you don’t need a college education to get started. You can get started by interning at a studio or even turning a spare bedroom into a mixing room. There are many online courses to train you to become a mixing and mastering engineer. Before you get too excited this isn’t an easy skill to learn. It can take years before you actually get good at it.
2. Guitar builder
Guitar builder make about $40,000 a year and the top 10% make over $60,000. Guitar builders are master craftsman and the amount of jobs opening up in this field has been going up since covid. Guitar sales have been going up every year since the 1960s.
3. Session/Touring Musician
Session/Touring musician on average make around $50,000 while the top ones can make well over a few hundred thousand or even seven figures a year. Session/Touring musicians work with music artist to make their live production and records sound more alive. Sometimes they’re needed to play parts of a song that main artists aren’t able to do themselves.
4. Music Software Developer
Music software developers make about $93,000 on average. This is a high payed and a high skilled job but you don’t need a job to get started in this field. If. you want to learn how to develop and code there are many free and paid ways of learning. There are meet-ups, apprenticeships and courses online.
